Marshall announced today it had hired a new assistant to coach along side Matt Daniel.
Devrinn Paul was hired and comes to us from the University of Louisville where he worked for 3 years. However he wasn't a coach at Louisville, he was a video coordinator for the women's basketball team. Prior to that he was a graduate assistant for the team for two years while studying for his Master's degree.
Now, I know you have to start somewhere, but hiring a video coordinator seems to be a bad choice since he does not have any prior coaching experience. According to Herd Zone his duties included preparing scouting reports, producing highlight videos of game film, and helping with recruiting videos.
With that said, he was a part of the first Cardinal women's basketball team to make it to the Final Four in 2009, and the girls have made it to 4 NCAA appearances and event advanced to the National Championship game twice. I hope he was taking notes.
Uhmmmmm......I will trust and respect Marshall on this hiring, but it seems like a risky move. They rolled the dice, now let's see where they land.
