Marshall University football team
has lost a few good men this semester. Whether it be from injury or from
choice, it seems like Marshall has lost a lot of good players in the midst of what
will potentially be their best season in years.
Jordan Jeffries traded his
uniform in for a whistle only a few weeks ago after a doctor warned him if he
continued to play football it would ruin his life down the road. Among that, Josh
Lovell announced he was leaving the team to focus on school. On top of that
Cameron Dees hasn’t played a down this season. He suffered a concussion over
the summer, but you would think that months after suffering the injury he would
be okay. Clint Van Horn had also been out due to concussion.
Perhaps the most notable missing
player is Jeremiah Taylor. The South Point, Ohio native had started every Herd
game since his sophomore season until he received a back injury in the first
half of the Ohio game. He hasn’t played a down since then and rumors among the
fans are that his football playing days are over. He has been coaching the players on the
practice field with Jeffries lately and we all hope to see him back on the
field soon.
While I applaud
the staff and trainers for putting safety first, I also cannot help but to
think that injuries are up this season. Maybe
there’s something in the water? Or perhaps that’s just the Herds luck. With all
the recent studies of the effects of football injuries coming out, you can
never been too careful with treating the injury when it happens and not putting
the player at risks which might affect them in the future.
